Characters that feel like family

About the Author

Zachia Walder

I’m Zachia Walder, a writer, mother, storyteller, and firm believer that Black love deserves to be written with softness, passion, honesty, and a little heat.

I was raised in Watts, California, and I carry the strength of where I come from in everything I write. I am equal parts polished and unapologetic. I can appreciate a beautiful hotel lobby, a good glass of something smooth, and a perfectly planned baecation, while still keeping enough hood in my spirit to say exactly what needs to be said.

Bougie, but never disconnected.

Soft, but never weak.

As a mother, I understand that love is not only something we say. It is something we protect, pour into, fight for, and leave behind. My children are part of the reason I write with so much heart. They remind me that our stories matter, our voices deserve room, and healing can become a legacy too.

I do not write under a pen name because Zachia Walder is more than the name on the cover. It is my family, my history, my father’s legacy, and the woman I worked hard to become.

My stories are for women who have ever had to find their way back to themselves, and for the readers who still believe Black love can be safe, passionate, healing, and worth the wait.

As a woman, I write from experience, growth, grief, desire, faith, and the beautiful mess of becoming. I am drawn to stories about women who have survived hard things without losing their ability to love deeply. My characters are grown, complicated, sensual, vulnerable, and real. They are women learning how to choose themselves without closing the door on the love they still deserve.

My work celebrates Black women being desired out loud and loved with intention. It honors Black men who are strong enough to be gentle, honest enough to be vulnerable, and secure enough to love a woman without asking her to shrink.

I write Black love with all its laughter, history, sensuality, struggle, and sacredness because I believe our love stories deserve more than survival.

They deserve romance.

They deserve joy.

They deserve happily ever afters that look and feel like us.

When I’m not writing, you can usually find me listening to music, analyzing lyrics, getting lost in a good book, loving on my family, or imagining the next unforgettable couple who will keep my readers up far past bedtime.
